Figure Drawing Stuff

2 minute gestures from Figure drawing club, done with a brush pen, again something id like to use more for quick gestures like these

10 minute gesture also pencil

cafe drawing in the auditorium for a different perspective. pencil on charcoal paper

sequential homework. I picked the Tony performance of How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying performing "Brotherhood of Man"

Mr. William Wyverngreen

The character I chose evolved from the aristocratic dragon in an earlier post.  My teacher said the aristocratic dragon didn't have much to work with, so for some reason it evolved into a victorian like actor in which further developed into a Chairman of an English Music Hall.  They were the Master of Ceremonies, The M.C. of the night introducing performers, actors, and a comedian and performer himself often times messing and playing along with the audience.  I enjoy it cause i get to channel my chairman character from The Mystery of Edwin Drood into some of this.  I thought the expressions could be great as well because acting had to be broad back then.  I further developed that his wings would also be his arms so he is a Wyvern Dragon which the wings enhance the silhouette.  A classmate said it would be cool if the wings hanged like cloth creating flow and designed in a cape-like fashion. I sort of borrowed a bit of Orson Welles jaw and cheeks figuring he would have a great booming voice like the Great Orson Welles and very flamboyant and eccentric personality like the Wizard from the Wizard of Oz played by the great Frank Morgan. The idea was approved.  We will have to make an environment for this character so a stage will be my next task after building the character.

Toned paper study.  That toned paper is awesome want to work more with that.

Still Life's

Never painted still life's before, something I would like to do more of over the summer to get better.  Acrylic on Bristol Paper.

Our teacher wanted us to do a quick still life of one object done in about 45 minutes, trying to capture light and paint in big shapes and not worry about the details.  Definitely do more of these to help me get better.

Invented Character Ideas

For 3D we get to design and sculpt a character of our choosing, but has to be humanoid.  My first idea was an aristocratic dragon which would evolve into my current character which will be featured in a future post.

The next character was a character my friends had sort of invented and thought would be fun to put my spin on it and bring it to life.  Isaac the snowman, about a snowman who is after some punk little kid who brought him to life but hates the kid cause the snowman knows he is going to melt. Basically an entire 360 from Frosty.

I had my friend Isaac in mind when i made the faces to whom the character is modeled after haha.

Cafe Studies

Cafe studies done in figure drawing.  The first four are four different models from different days but all 5-10 minutes in length.  The last one was a 45 minute and the models were basing their story off of the characters from "The African Queen" featuring Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn.  When it comes to the longer poses I'm really trying to work more with shapes and eliminating outlines. with maybe 15 more minutes it could have been refined a little more and refined face on the man but needless to say am content with what came out.  And saggy, loose pants are not fun to draw....
